What is the “Gospel” of Jesus Christ?
The word “gospel” means “good news.” The Gospel, or good news, of Jesus Christ is that He did what no one could ever do. You see, God loves us, but ever since Adam and Eve sinned against God, every human being has sinned and therefore cannot come into God’s presence because He is holy and perfect. As much as we try, we cannot bridge the gap to God because of our sinful nature. We can never be good enough to reach God. Good works, religion, philosophy and morality all fall short of God’s perfection.
God loves us so much that he sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, to bridge the gap (John 3:16). Jesus did what no one else could ever do, because He is both God and human, born to Mary. He took upon himself the punishment we deserve, dying on the cross in our place. Now, through a relationship with Jesus Christ, we can come before a holy God. That is the good news! Do you have a relationship with God?
Not only do we have eternal life through Jesus, but we also now can live without being condemned because of sin. Jesus paid the price for our sins, and He lives within those who have placed their trust in Him. In Christ not only have we secured our future in eternity with God, but have the Holy Spirit living in us to help us today to live for Christ. The only way to God is through trusting in Jesus Christ, and nothing else.
Will you trust in Jesus Christ right now?
Here is how the Bible says you can receive Christ:
1. Admit your need for Christ because of your sin.
God’s word says: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 “…the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:232. Believe that Jesus Christ died in your place on the cross and rose again showing that He is God and that His death was payment in full for your sins.
God’s word says: “But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 10:12 “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:233. Be willing to turn away from your life without Christ and the sin that results, and live for Christ, allowing Him to change you from within.
God’s word says: “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out…” Acts 3:19 “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” 2 Corinthians 3:164. Through prayer, spoken or not, receive Christ by trusting in Him alone, realizing that being accepted by God is not based on what you do, good or bad, but on whether or not you have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
God’s word says: “But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1 Will you pray and receive Christ?Prayer is simply communicating with God. It can be spoken, or simply from your heart. This prayer below is not necessarily meant to be read word for word, but is to be an example of what to say when trusting Christ. It would be more real if you prayed in your own words. The important thing is that you truly mean what you are saying.
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins on the cross and rose again because You are God! I realize placing my trust in You is the only way I can receive that forgiveness and be saved. I want to turn from my life without You and the sin that results, and live my life following You. I now realize that once I place my trust in You for my salvation and not anything that I do, I have a personal relationship with You and You now live within me. I know now that I am acceptable to God because of You, Jesus, and nothing I do can change that. My sins are forgiven and when I die I will go to heaven because I am in Christ. Thank You, Jesus. In Your name, amen.If you have placed your trust in Jesus, we would love to encourage you and help you with the next steps in your new life in Christ.
